My Pledge to You, My Readers

It is my hope that This E-Bike Life will become an interactive community where we can all share ideas, united by our common love for e-bikes. It’s a site where everyone with an interest in e-bikes will be welcome to join and participate. It’s not the place to talk politics or be divisive; bigotry, hate speech, and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

This blog is primarily a labor of love on my part. The income I receive from the blog will come from promoting my e-bike books, offering cycling-related products for you to buy through the blog (affiliate marketing*), and from advertising revenue. These are all typical ways that blogs earn revenue.

I aim to maintain an independent voice and editorial integrity, to best serve you, my readers. This blog is not owned or sponsored by a bike manufacturer, bike retailer, or any other companies or organizations. E-bike businesses are welcome to advertise on this site, but it’s editorial content will not exclusively promote one brand of e-bikes or accessories. If at a future point we run a “sponsored” story paid for by a bike-related company, we will clearly identify it as such.

Riding and Writing: My Story

I first came to love bicycles as a kid. Like many children from the Baby Boomer generation, my bike gave me incredible freedom. I could roam my city for hours, explore nearby parks, and run errands for my parents. I cherished my time on my bike.

While I never lost my interest in cycling, buying an electric bike a few years ago was a watershed event for me. Riding an e-bike not only rekindled my love affair with cycling but took it to new heights. Thanks to the combination of owning an e-bike and no longer being tied to an 8-to-5 work schedule, I am riding more than ever and enjoying every minute of it. Many of you have similar stories. For us senior adults, e-bikes have transformed our lives in remarkable ways. We are able to stay more physically active and mentally alert, and we’re discovering new adventures that keep us feeling young and alive — all thanks to these amazing e-bikes.

Initially considered suitable mainly for those of us with gray hair and achy joints, e-bikes have now gained much broader acceptance. People of all ages are embracing e-bikes. Urban workers are commuting to jobs on e-bikes. Young families are transporting their children to schools and parks on e-bikes. Delivery services are discovering the usefulness of e-bikes. People are cycling more and driving their cars less. Even young studs on road bikes and mountain bikes are gradually beginning to experience the benefits of e-bikes.

Another consuming interest that has been part of my personal DNA for most of my life is a love for writing. My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in journalism. I worked as a newspaper reporter for my first several years out of college. In various jobs over the years since, writing has played a large role in my career, from corporate annual reports and news releases in the old days to writing for websites and social media in recent years.

Another Blog — and a New Book

This is my second blog. I also operate This Retirement Life, which shares information about all aspects of senior living and aging. Especially if you are age 50-plus and either retired or thinking ahead to retirement, I hope you will also visit This Retirement Life.

My most ambitious writing challenge yet came just recently as I researched and wrote my first-ever real book. It is titled “E-BIKES: Putting the FUN Back into Cycling (and Life) at Any Age.” It’s the most comprehensive and up-to-date book yet that explains everything you need to know about e-bikes, from what to look for when buying one to learning how to maintain and protect e-bikes. The book is written to my fellow senior adults, but anyone interested in e-bikes will find it of value. It’s available now on Amazon’s Kindle program and will roll out to other book sellers early next year. I hope you’ll pick up a copy.

Thank you for coming along and sharing this e-bike journey. Welcome to the start of the This E-Bike Life community. It’s going to be fun!
